(What if)
Biofeedback in real-time

Team: Giah Kim, Kai Glick

Program: TouchDesigner, Arduino
Device: Pulse Sensor, Arduino

What if we could see the environment in the real world in which we live through our body's biofeedback? How we could change by using our bio system? Which biofeedback we could use it? How it can affect our perspective? How we can interpret our biofeedback when we use it as input? We started with this question and proceeded with this project.

Diagram

We created a diagram to build this system. We decided to use the heart rate as a biofeedback. When using biofeedback as a technology, it's just a number, but the number of heartbeats can be interpreted in many ways. It could be our feelings, it could mean our health, and it could also represent our physical activity. We divided what we could and couldn't do after we made the diagram.

Through this project, we tried to control the screen (saturation, speed, distortion) that is filming the real environment according to the range of our heart rate in real time. (But can we really control our heart rate? What do we have to do for controlling our heartbeat as physically?)

Process 1

Test get the value of heartbeat by using Arduino and heartbeat sensor.

Process 2

As a first test, connect with Arduino in Touch Designer and change the ball size according to the heartbeat value.

Process 3

After that, we tried to change the video screen.

BPM:67

BPM:105

Process 4

Lastly, we adjusted to the real camera view and changed the view depending on heartbeat values.
If our heartbeat is low, the view is changed to dark, slow motion, and low saturation.
If our heartbeat is high, the view is changed to bright, fast motion and high saturation.

And then,
We Played with this!

The field of vision is translated through my biofeedback.
