How might we use technology to help students access information on the digital entertainment industry?

Background

AMP helps students and career switchers explore digital entertainment industry careers through an accessible voice-based AI mentor

Social problem

A mentorship gap creates an opportunity divide between income groups

  • 80% of students from high-income backgrounds have mentors

  • 28% of students from low-income backgrounds have mentors

Source: Inside Higher Ed, (2023).

User problem

69% of Gen Z and Millennials prefer voice or hands-free mobile interaction

Source: Deloitte Digital Trends Report, (2023).

How is this problem real?

Entertainment careers rely on connections, widening opportunity gaps for those without networks [1]

Film careers hinge on networks, and unequal access fuels opportunity gaps [2]

Low-income applicants are far less likely to access professional career mentoring tools [3]

Transforming unclear career paths into guided, intuitive experiences through AI mentorship

Translating pain points to solutions

Our solution makes career learning clear and engaging through guided prompts, genre-specific tips, and an animated AI mentor

Problem

Users often feel unsure about what to ask the AI mentor, leading to unproductive conversations.

Lack of in-app guidance for AI interactions

Generic responses across all genres

Users exploring K-pop, Hip-hop, and other fields receive identical advice, reducing relevance and engagement.

Users struggled to follow the mentor’s voice-only answers, especially in noisy or shared environments.

Difficulty understanding spoken responses

Solution

AI mentors with guided prompts

The mentor now displays sample questions and guide text, helping students start meaningful interactions and get relevant support.

Genre-specific career selection

Users can now select their focus area, allowing the AI to tailor questions, tips, and insights to that genre.

Speech paired with on-screen text

We included subtitles to help users follow the dialogue more easily and better retain important information.

User feedback 01

Interactive layout with larger CTA and animated character to boost engagement

Users preferred a bigger CTA and lively character with icons reacting on hover, making the experience dynamic and encouraging clicks

User feedback 02

Streamlined modal with focused content and active hover to boost engagement

Users preferred cleaner modal text with images popping out on hover and clear click effects, making the experience focused and interactive

User feedback 03

Real-time subtitles and keyword highlights for clearer interaction with AI mentor

Displaying real-time subtitles and key phrases alongside the mentor’s voice helps users follow conversations easily

Impact

After the updated design launch, AMP Mentoring recorded a 100% increase in Daily Active Users and a 296% boost in AI Mentor engagement, enhancing access to digital entertainment career guidance
